HISTORY OF PUERTO RICO TOBACCO CORPORATION ~ TAINO INDIANS

Updated: Jun 25, 2023

TAINO INDIANS OWNED ALL THE LAND FROM CUBA TO ARUBA - BORINKEN

When I got to Puerto Rico in 1984 everyone in PR told me the Tainos were extinct. But I could see their faces. Everywhere. I was working with the government of Puerto Rico and insisted among some friends that studies begin to identify the MtDNA of the people of Puerto Rico. A majority of Puerto Ricans it turned out inherited MtDNA from the Taino Indians. They were still here. An article was published about the study and several radio advertisements were made by the radio stations that all Puerto Ricans who believed they were of Taino descent should come to our office and sign the master registry. Our office became the first modern Taino Indian Triable Affairs Office for the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico. The original registry contains the names of those who claim to be descendants of the Caciques and those who in general have been told by their families that they are in fact Taino.
